What I thought: OK, it was $15.99 at World Market, not $10, but I didn’t buy it. My wife did. (After seeing the movie “Sideways”.) Still is that really too much to spend on a good wine? I have to admit first a predjudice, I really like cabs more than pinots. I don’t know why any more than I know why I like salsa more than chocolate. Just the same, this was an enjoyable wine. Pinots seem better suited to pork than beef. I had this one at room temperature after about 30 minutes of air time. The taste was mild and a little fruity (cherry?) but really pleasant. It had a bit of a stale feeling aftertaste that I attribute to what I am certain are the excellent storage and shipping practices of World Market moreso than to the wine. I enjoyed the Chalone Vineyards website, though it doesn’t work in Firefox, and will try some other products.

ABOUT THE VINTAGE
2004 started out with warm weather in January and March, leading to early bud break. Spring and summer were relatively mild in the central coast, leading to even development. The Pinot Noir harvest began in September, with very ripe grapes showing good flavors.

The opinions contained in the above are strictly my own or those of my equally lacking friends. I do not pretend to be a wine expert, a connoisseur or even know what the heck I’m talking about. This is my tongue and these are my thoughts or the opinion of friends I have asked to chime in. If you agree or disagree with my taste (or lack there in) cool. Let me know. Or dont.

If you have found some good wines at or around $10 a bottle, do mankind a favor. Share the love and spread the news. Let’s take the enjoyment of wine away from the rich and share it with the, uh… not-so-rich!
