I am so disappointed. I ran into some people recently down in Florida. They had a really cool business card for what sounded like a great thing for the Goodcheapwineguide guy. (AKA the Wine Oaf) Their card listed a site called popchampagne.us. They spoke of a site that, when finished, would have lot’s of discounts on good champagnes! I thought, “Very cool!” Cheap champagne could easily be a category and…well you know. Could be fun to test as well. So, finally got around to checking it out. And….the sites not really ready yet. Looked like I could buy some things but the site says it’s not finished. Hurry up will you! What the heck. Well, not their fault, like us the probably have day jobs and this is a hobby. Yet, just the same…they had me at hello.
I really don’t know much about champagne. I used to live in a city named Champaign, but Champaign was not a hot spot for champagne. Anyway…I really like a nice dry champagne but really don’t like the Paris Hilton overtones when you think about buying a bottle. It really is a shame how champagne has turned into the over-quaffed poodle or puppy in a purse of the wine family. Do you think the other wines tease the champagne bottles on the shelf in the liquor store? All I know is that the worst headache I ever had was from a night of champagning! (Is that a word?) HAD TO PLAY GOLF THE NEXT MORNING! Showed up 20 minutes late with my shirt on inside out. Just like my swing.
The champagne served by my FRIEND that night was the Korbel (like at the right). Hey, it’s only $10.99 on the web. Not so bad. Enough left over to buy some Bayer. Guess I’m just a cab guy.
After Lent, I am going to buy a couple of cheap champagnes and open up a new category. Any suggestions? I promise not to schedule a tee time.
Cheers!
